Oh boy it's been a long road that got us to this point. This is how it all started. Back in October Scott had a persistant cough. He went to the doctor towards the end of October. Doctor ordered an xray and gave him antibiotic. Doctor said to come back in 4 or 5 days if he didn't feel better. The cough went away for the most part. Scott was scheduled to have his hip replaced December 19th. So he had to go to his primary doctor for his pre-op physical. At that appointment the doctor still heard a rattling in his lung. She ordered and chest xray and gave him more antibiotics and he should return in 10 days to have another xray done. There was a spot on his lung, which we thought it was from his past pneumonia. He had the xray the day before is other pre-op appointment at the hospital. During the pre-op appointment the doctor was looking at the results of the chest xray. The radiologist thought that the spot had gotten a little bigger. So the hip replacement was cancelled. Doctor ordered a chest CT and that was done on December 13th. To our surprise when the results came back on that CT, they said Scott had calcification on his heart and there was something on his kidney. So he was ordered to have a stress test right away. That all came back normal. But the spot on his kidney looked suspicious for melagnacy. Scheduled an appointment with the urologist and we were told that it was cancer. Doctor said there also looked like there was a lymph node that looked suspicious also. A biopsy was scheduled for the next week. We got those results this week, the cancer is Renal Cell Carcinoma grade 2. And nothing in the lymph node, thank goodness! The doctor originally thought the tumor was 4-5cm and the surgeon thought he would be able to leave part of the kidney. When he called and talked to Scott the other day, he said wouldn't know how much of the kidney he will have to actually see until he is doing surgery. Say a few prayers that they can leave part of it. So as of right now surgery is scheduled for Monday February 17th. I will update as we move along day to day. Love and prayers, Sue
